Our single-origin Peruvian coffee comes from the area around the town of Pichanaqui in the province of Chanchamayo. It is a certified organic and Fairtrade single-origin coffee, very similar to our organic/Fairtrade Bolivian coffee (which was unavailable for a while due to crop failures) and which we therefore purchased as a replacement.
This coffee comes from the Aproselva cooperative in the Chanchamayo Valley, one of the country's most important coffee-growing regions, where approximately 40% of the total harvest is cultivated. The cooperative comprises smallholder farmers who each produce around 1,500 kg of green coffee on small plots of about 2 hectares. The coffee grows in the shade at higher elevations, resulting in a denser bean texture through a slower ripening process, which in turn leads to interesting cup profiles.
This is also a strong, dry, nutty coffee, wonderfully suited for espresso preparation. In recent years, it has overtaken our Bolivia BIO+FAIRTRADE as the most popular classic filter coffee in the organic segment, because when enjoyed in a filter – both in a hand filter and in a machine – it exudes a delicate, spicy note with hints of nut and cinnamon.
